(WLS) — “An early-morning apartment fire in the city’s Chatham neighborhood killed one woman and displaced six family members, officials said.
The blaze broke out in the 7900-block of South Maryland early Sunday morning in the building’s third floor, officials said.
It took crews over an hour to extinguish the fire.
“Over 100 firefighters on the scene,” said District Chief Tim Sampey. “Protection on windows and doors made entry difficult on the first and second floors, so they laddered the building and made entry through the upper floors through the structure and subsequently put the fire out.”
Neighbors said the building was under foreclosure and that tenants were moving out but there were still a few left.”…Continue Reading Here
