Job Description:

This is advanced life support and field paramedical work responding to emergency calls from the public to perform medical assistance with emphasis on the stabilization of patients to permit safe transport to a full-service medical facility.
Contact with the general public, the comforting of patients, the reassuring of family and others in the vicinity, and cooperation with fire and police authorities are of major significance to this work. Duties are performed according to standard paramedical practices and established drug therapy protocol. Employees in this class work on rotating shifts are subject to adverse weather conditions, and their duties involve moderate physical effort. Minimum RequirementsMinimum Training, Education & ExperienceThe following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants. Candidates must meet requirements within 30 days after the last date for filing applications. Thus, candidates must meet the requirements by March 3, 2019.

1. EDUCATION:

Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade

AND

2. EXPERIENCE:
Completion of training in advanced life support practices and techniques necessary to qualify for Pennsylvania State Certification.

Candidates must attach to this application or submit to the OHR staff member listed below either a copy of their Pennsylvania State certification as an Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic or proof of the completion of training in advanced life support practices and techniques necessary to qualify for Pennsylvania State Certification. The training must have been completed by March 3, 2019 and documentation received by the OHR staff member by March 4, 2019.

NOTE: Firefighters with one year of experience in the Firefighter class or Emergency Medical Technicians with two years of experience in the Emergency Medical Technician class who complete a department sponsored paramedic training course will be considered to have satisfied the training and experience requirements upon completion of the training program and the obtaining of State certification.

Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of employment as a Fire Service Paramedic.Other RequirementsDOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS

The training must have been completed by March 3, 2019 and received by the OHR staff member listed below by March 4, 2019. Providing this documentation is REQUIRED.
