Job Description:

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Belvidere is now accepting applications for the position of Entry Level Firefighter

Testing is being conducted for new hires and to establish an eligibility list for future hiring needs.

Belvidere is located in Boone County which is currently one of the fastest growing counties in the state.  The Department has a proud history that began back in 1886.  Through the years with all of the growth and changes one thing has remained constant; the courage and dedication of their firefighters as they put their life on the line for the protection of all.  The members of the Belvidere Fire Department have the conviction and the resolve to provide the citizens with an outstanding Fire/Rescue service.

Starting Salary:  $47,192.00

Job Requirements:

You must meet the minimum requirements

  • Citizenship:  You must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Driver’s License: Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
  • Age Requirements: Applicants must have obtained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (3/31/16) and must be under the age of 35 years on 4/16/16 unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10 – 2. 1-6 which provides, in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a certified full-time firefighter in Illinois.
  • Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
  • Vision:  Correctable to 20/40, normal peripheral vision and able to distinguish colors.
  • Residency:  Must reside within a 20 mile radius of the Public Safety Building (615 N. Main St) within one year following successful completion of their one-year probationary period.
NOTE: Candidates must possess a valid CPAT Card with Ladder Climb at the time of hire. (cards considered valid if issued within one year prior to time of hire)
