The City of Fargo is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Firefighter.
2017 annual starting salary is $47,262 ($3938/month) plus benefits.
Applicant must be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED) and must have a minimum of one of the following:
1. An Associate of Science Degree; or
2. An approved Fire Fighter I/II curriculum as approved by the National Fire Academy, ProBoard, IFSAC or an equivalent program which conforms to NFPA 1001 and successful completion of 60 college semester hours in any subject; or
3. Successful completion of 90 college semester hours in any subject; or
4. Equivalent education and experience.
The applicant must obtain ProBoard certification of Firefighter I, Hazardous Materials Awareness, and Hazardous Materials Operations during recruit training and ProBoard certification of Firefighter II within probationary first year of employment. Also must obtain national certification as an Emergency Medical Technician within the probationary period (one year) at his/her own expense. The applicant must have the ability to understand the English language, written and spoken. They must pass a physical agility test that will demonstrate they possess adequate physical ability to perform all duties and be able to utilize all issued equipment under hazardous conditions. In addition, they will participate in an oral interview with a panel representing Human Resources and Fire officials. Following a conditional offer of employment, applicant is subject to a background investigation and shall be required to successfully pass a pre-placement medical examination (includes drug screen), psychological exam, and a polygraph exam.
Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Appointees to the position of Firefighter are also subject to all applicable provisions of federal and state law; the Ordinances of the City of Fargo as set forth in the Fargo Municipal Code; all City of Fargo Employment policies; and all applicable departmental rules, regulations and standard operating procedures.
Only those who have applied in a timely manner, meet minimum qualifications and have received notification will be admitted to the written examination. Those applicants not meeting the minimum qualifications or not meeting the deadline for receipt of applications will be notified of their ineligibility and notified not to report for the written examination.
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE FOR TESTING PROCESS:
Written Test June 19, 2017- Eligibility notification sent by mail.
Agility Test June 19, 2017- PM & June 20, 2017- AM
– Must pass written test to be eligible.
Interview June 20, 2017- PM, all day June 21, 2017 & June 22, 2017-AM
– Must pass Agility Test to be eligible.
