Job Description:

The City of Gainesville Fire Department is accepting applications for FIREFIGHTER II. This is an entry-level class in the firefighter series.

Qualifications

No experience is required. Training requirements include: equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and successful completion of Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) approved Basic Structure Fire Suppression Course. Must meet all requirements of the TCFP to obtain and/or retain certification as a Basic Structural Firefighter at time of employment. License/certification requirements include: possession of, or ability to obtain within 30 days, a valid driver’s license appropriate for driving fire apparatus; possession of, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire, a Basic Structural Fire Protection Personnel certificate from TCFP and Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B).

Special Requirements

The Gainesville Fire Department enforces a strict response time of approximately 30 minutes. This means you must be able to respond from you residence to Station 1 within 30 minutes. A map of the area within the 30 minute response time will be provided to you at the time of testing.

Miscellaneous Information

The Gainesville Fire Department covers 17 square miles of Cooke County and responds to approximately 2,500 Fire and Medical First Responder calls annually. The Department provides Technical Rescue support to Cooke County in Swift Water, High Angle, and Dive Rescue and participates with Texas Task Force 1 to provide water assets. The Department operates three staffed stations with a 24/48 fire shift personnel schedule.
