The City of Lenexa, Kansas Fire Department is currently seeking highly motivated men and women who are passionate about serving the public and delivering the highest level of professional service as a firefighter.Â The City of Lenexa is a progressive, dynamic, and growing community located in Johnson County, Kansas.Â The department is accredited by Commission on Fire Accreditation International and has been awarded the highest public protection classification rating by the Insurance Services Office. The firefighter position is a non-standard, rotating work, shift schedule (nine 24 hour shifts in a 27 day work period), requiring weekend and holiday work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Â We encourage candidates to apply with the following minimum qualifications.
- Minimum of 20 Years of Age at Time of Employment Offer
- Valid Driver’s License with Good Driving Record
- High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency
- Successful Completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test (within 1 year)
- Firefighter I and II CertificateÂ and EMT Certification;Â OR a Paramedic Certification with or without the Firefighter I and II Certificates.
- National registry or Kansas paramedic certification highly preferred.
The application packet must be submitted before the close of business June 1, 2016.Â The scheduledÂ date for the written aptitude test is Saturday, June 4, 2016.Â Qualified applicants will be confirmed electronically prior to the test. Those candidates passing the written aptitude test will be scheduled for structured interviews the week of June 6 through June 8, 2016. Successful candidates may receive a conditional job offer based on position openings and an eligibility list will be established. Those candidates receiving a conditional job offer will be required to successfully pass a psychological and medical exam, urine drug screen, and pre-employment background screening.Â Additionally, within one-year of hire, Lenexa firefighters are required to establish residency so as to be able to report work within 30 minutes. Starting salary for Firefighter is $39,066/yearly and starting salary for Paramedics is $42,972/yearly, plusÂ benefitsÂ including health, dental, life, short term disability, life insurance;Â state and city sponsored pension plans, and tuition reimbursement program.
