MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
The first 150 fully qualified candidates with complete application packages will be accepted for the testing process. A complete application package includes the following:
• City of Palm Bay on-line employment application (required)
• Certificate of Compliance or Certification of Completion per Florida Statute 633.35 (required)
•State of Florida Dept. of Health EMT or Paramedic License (required)
•Current ACLS certification for paramedics, or a BLS certification for EMTs, from a Florida Division of EMS approved provider (required)
• DD214 (if applicable)
• Copy of College degree or transcript (if applicable)
Certifications should be attached electronically.
Please do not provide any additional documentation at this time; do not attach anything other than the items listed above. As you move forward in the process we may add additional items to your application package for review.
National Registry certifications are not accepted. You must provide State of Florida documentation.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: BUREAU OF FIRE STANDARDS & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS FOR FIREFIGHTER/EMT/PARAMEDIC: Applicant must be at least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be a U.S. Citizen or legal resident alien (birth certificate or green card). Must hold a valid State of Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance or Certification of Completion as a Firefighter. Must be a certified EMT or Paramedic. Must possess a current ACLS certification for paramedics, or a BLS certification for EMTs, from a Florida Division of EMS approved provider. Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, which includes but is not limited to: satisfactory employment history; driving record; national fingerprint check (not have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, as defined by law, or be in compliance with Florida State Statute 112.011(2)(b)., history subject to review); Have good moral character as determined by investigation; Meet the medical requirements as outlined in NFPA standard 1001 & 1582.
NOTE: Palm Bay Fire-Rescue Department has a Tobacco-Free policy which requires that you must be tobacco free for at least 1 year preceding application and remain tobacco free during your employment with PBFR. Nicotine tests are part of the Firefighter pre-employment physical.
An examination fee is required for each step in the testing process. Payment will be made at each individual step of the process. Additional information regarding payment will be provided upon acceptance of your application.
Applicants, who believe they qualify, may apply for a fee waiver that will be ruled upon prior to administering the test(s). The fee waiver will be applied if the applicant produces proof of the receipt of the Florida State equivalency of General Assistance (welfare); Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (Previously AFDC) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
1. Written examination will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2019.
Fee: $25 Applicants will be required to successfully pass a written validated examination. This is the only test date for this portion of the process.
2. MEGA Codes and Physical Agility: Tuesday, April 9, 2019.
Fee: $40 Must pass the EMT or Paramedic MEGA Codes (dependent upon certification) and Physical Agility to continue in the process. This is the only test date for this portion of the process.
3. FireTeams: Tuesday, April 23, 2019.
Fee: $35 Applicants must pass both the mechanical aptitude and the Human Relations modules to continue in the process. This is the only test date for this portion of the process.
Upon successfully completing steps 1, 2, and 3, the top 16 candidates will be setup for a panel interview to be held May 6th and May 7th, 2019.
Candidates who successfully complete the written examination, MEGA Codes, Physical Agility, FireTeam assessments, and the panel interview will be ranked by total score to create an eligibility list. Veteran’s preference points will be added in accordance with Florida State Statute. Additional points may also be added for local preference.
Upon completion of a comprehensive background check, and receipt of a Conditional Offer of Employment, the candidate will then be required to submit to a polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, drug screen, and medical examination.
Note: Prior to having an interview, those invited to interview must provide an official Driving Record (7 year minimum) from the Dept. of Motor Vehicle and Highway Safety. Directions on how to obtain your driving record can be found at: http://www.flhsmv.gov/ddl/abstract.html
