SALARY: 16.17 – 20.22 Hourly USD

The salary range listed is for a Firefighter Trainee. After successful completion of required certifications, compensation will transition to the appropriate step plan salary structure.

Eligibility Requirements

 

The eligibility requirements to be a City of Arlington Firefighter Trainee are established by the Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 143 and the City of Arlington’s Fire Department Civil Service Commission Local Rules. The following represents part of these initial eligibility requirements.

 

Applicants must:

 

  • Have earned a high school diploma or GED.
  • Be a U.S. citizen by birth or naturalization.
  • Be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
  • Be at least 18 to 35 years of age at the time of testing. Must have reached 18 years of age as of the date of the exam, and not have reached 36 years of age as of the date of the appointment. Applicants must be 19 years of age to be appointed.
  • Be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) and/or other criminal background check(s).
  • By completing this application, Applicant acknowledges that a preference may be given to those holding an Advanced EMT or Paramedic Certification.

 

 

A properly completed City of Arlington Firefighter Trainee Exam Application must be completed online in order to sit for the exam. After submitting your completed application, you will receive an email confirming submission. Once the Civil Service Office determines your exam eligibility, you will receive a second email confirming whether you are eligible or ineligible to sit for the exam for this current hiring process.

 

Pursuant to Sec. 143.026 of the Tex. Loc. Gov’t Code and Sec. 26.C of the Civil Service Commission Local Rules, the City Manager of the City of Arlington may exercise his discretion in making appointments by giving preference to applicants who already possess relevant national and/or state certification(s). If preference is exercised, then non-certified candidates who are not appointed in order of the eligibility list will remain on the list until it is expired or otherwise exhausted for future hiring purposes.
