Salary: $45,834 – $60,103 Annually
This recruitment will establish a civil service list that will be utilized to fill future academy seats. While no academy start date has been established pending funding allocations, it is anticipated that one academy may be funded for July 2016. The Tucson Fire Department is seeking qualified and motivated candidates for the position of Fire Fighter Recruit. This position involves specialized fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency lifesaving, and rescue work with the Tucson Fire Department. The duties require strenuous physical exertion under such emergency conditions as extreme heat, cramped surroundings and a contaminated environment.
Example of duties include:
Performing fire suppression and emergency response as part of a team
Performing facility, apparatus and equipment maintenance, and maintaining personal health and physical fitness levels
Performing related duties such as educating the community, conducting station tours, maintaining required certifications, and participating in drills and continuing education courses

A Fire Fighter is expected to exercise exceptional judgment, sometimes in a split-second decision-making situation. Applicants who are indecisive or do not like making decisions might consider employment other than a Fire Fighter.
A Fire Fighter is requested to take charge of many different situations. Individuals who are hesitant to do so may find it difficult to function effectively.
A firefighting career can be very challenging. It is highly encouraged that one is physically fit in order to cope with the physical demands and the mental and emotional stressors that accompany this occupation.
Must be at least 18 years of age as of January 17, 2016
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent certificate
Valid Driver’s License with two years of driving experience
Ability to obtain an Arizona EMT certification upon graduation. Tucson Fire will not entertain any waivers.
Physical abilities necessary to perform the essential functions and pass a pre-employment physical
This position requires passing a criminal background check, Motor Vehicle History Report, Public Records Check and pre-employment physical and drug screen. Fingerprinting and reference checks will also be conducted prior to an offer of employment. Employment offers are contingent upon successfully passing any of the above requirements.
The minimum requirements for this position must be met as of the recruitment closing date. Applicants must continue to meet these requirements in order to remain eligible for consideration.
