Job Description:

Winnetka FD Minimum Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship or meet the requirements of the Illinois Human Rights Act for citizenship status
  • Must have passed 21st birthday and, except as otherwise provided by law, be under 35 years of age at date of filing application. The maximum age does not apply to anyone who has previously been employed as a firefighter or who has turned 35 while serving as a member of the Military with honorable service under age 40.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate’s Degree or at least 60 semester credit hours from an accredited college or university prior to offer of employment. Evidence of two years of active naval or military service may be accepted in lieu of 60 college credits
  • Valid CPAT and ladder climb card – considered valid only if issued within six months prior to written exam date (February 4, 2018-August 4, 2018) from an approved testing agency
  • Valid certification from the State of Illinois as an Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (IDPH EMT-P) by date of hire
  • Vision correctable to 20/30, normal peripheral vision and able to distinguish colors
  • Residency in Illinois at time of employment.

Northbrook Minimum Requirements:

  • U.S. citizen or meet the requirements of the Illinois Human Rights Act for citizenship status
  • Must have passed 21st birthday, and, except as otherwise provided by law, be under 35 years of age at the date of examination (August 4, 2018)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND one of the following: Associate’s Degree or at least 60 semester credit hours from an accredited college/university OR State of Illinois licensed Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (EMT-P) OR State of Illinois licensed Emergency Technician – Basic (EMT-B) and Illinois Officer of the State Fire Marshal Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter certification
  • Valid CPAT and Ladder Climb card – considered valid only if issued between January 1, 2018 and August 4, 2018 from an approved testing agency
  • Vision correctable to 20/40, normal peripheral vision and able to distinguish colors.

Required Documentation due at 4:00 PM on 7/3/18documentation must be hand delivered or mailed:

  • Confirmed online application (available after purchase – there is only one application for both departments)
  • Consent and Release forms/waivers (available after purchase)
  • Copy of high school diploma or GED
  • Copy of driver’s license
  • Copy of birth record
  • Copy of valid CPAT and ladder climb certification
  • For Northbrook applicants only: Copy of original college transcripts/DD-214, or EMT-P license, or EMT-B license and OFSM IL Basic Operations/FF II certification

Orientation and Testing:

Saturday, August 4, 2018. Sign-in opens at 8:00 AM – arrive no later than 8:30 AM with a photo-ID to sign-in. Late arrivals will not be permitted. Testing will take place in Northbrook, IL – the exact location will be provided to eligible candidates prior to the test date.
