Job Description:

Algonquin Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District is currently hiring for Part-time Firefighter/EMT-B.  All testing must be completed by April 11, 2016.

The department requires a valid CPAT administered by NIPSTA or SUFD with the additional attachment required by Illinois State law.

Department Overview:  The District, located in McHenry and Kane Counties along the Fox River, encompasses a 22 square mile jurisdiction approximately 40 miles northwest of the City of Chicago.  Operating out of three stations, the ALFPD serves a residential population of approximately 40,000 and protects a mix of residential, light industrial and commercial development by providing effective and efficient fire protection, fire prevention, emergency medical services, and specialized response to emergency incidents.  The District employs 65 commissioned and non-commissioned firefighting personnel and 4 civilian staff members, who responded to 3,688 emergency incidents in 2015.

US Citizen: Yes

High School Grad/GED: Yes

Valid ILLINOIS State Driver’s License: Yes

Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes

Vision: Medical evaluation including vision and other requirements will be in accordance to the most current National Fire Protection Association Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Districts (NFPA 1582).

Academy Certification:

Yes, Firefighter Basic Operations (Firefighter II) from the Illinois Office of State Fire Marshal Certification.

Necessary Certifications:

At a minimum candidates must possess the following certifications prior to applying:

  • State of Illinois Basic Operations Firefighter or Firefighter II
  • Licensed State of Illinois Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) or proof you are currently enrolled in an EMT-B course. Please note: you must have your EMT-B license prior to hire-date (approx. May/June 2016 )
  • Valid CPAT with ladder climb endorsement certificate card within the last 12 months (01/01/15 or later)

Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors:

Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers: No Felony or Criminal convictions, probation or supervision.

Driving Disqualifiers: Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license and good driving record.

Drug Use Disqualifiers: No illegal drug possession or record of illegal drug use.

Employment Disqualifiers: Must pass a pre-employment medical evaluation including drug screening, psychological and polygraph examination and background investigation.

Additional Disqualifiers: According to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement with the ALFPD and IAFF Local 3985, the ALFPD is not to employ any Part-time Firefighter that is employed as a Full-time Firefighter in another Department.

Must pass written exam and oral interview.
