Job Description:

Join the Cocoa Beach Fire Department as a certified FF/EMT or FF/Paramedic. 

FF/EMT GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under general supervision, performs emergency response work in firefighting, emergency rescue, and emergency medical care.  Work involves responding to emergency and non-emergency incidents in the area to perform fire suppression, emergency rescue, emergency medical care, hazardous material containment or clean-up, emergency site stabilization and other related tasks. Requires operating equipment and apparatus associated with such incidents in a timely and safe manner. Emergency medical response responsibilities include basic life support EMT procedures, protocols, and standing orders and the ability to operate all BLS medical equipment.  Work also involves training in the methods and techniques of emergency response operations, hazardous material operations, emergency medical treatment procedures and the use of related equipment and apparatus.  Employee is also responsible for inspecting and maintaining equipment, performing fire inspections, and performing various maintenance and custodial duties at the assigned fire station.  Employee is subject to the usual hazards of emergency response work.  Reports to a Fire Lieutenant.

Work involves responding to emergency and non-emergency incidents in the area to perform fire suppression, emergency rescue, emergency medical care, hazardous material containment or clean-up, emergency site stabilization and other related tasks and requires operating equipment and apparatus associated with such incidents. Emergency medical response responsibilities include performance of all Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ALS) and EMT procedures, protocols and standing orders and the ability to operate all ALS/EMT equipment.   Work also involves training in the methods and techniques of emergency response operations, hazardous material operations, emergency medical treatment procedures and the use of related equipment and apparatus. Employee is also responsible for inspecting and maintaining equipment, performing fire inspections, and performing various maintenance and custodial duties at the assigned fire station. Employee is subject to the usual hazards of emergency response work. Reports to a Fire Lieutenant. 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

EMT: High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by specialized training in firefighting and emergency response.

PARAMEDIC: High School Diploma or equivalent and experience as an emergency medical technician and paramedic, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Must reside within one-year of employment within 55 miles of Station 1 & sign tobacco use affidavit. Selected candidate(s) agree to maintain no tobacco use on and off duty as a condition of employment; must not have used tobacco within the previous 12 months.

EMT SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a Certificate of Compliance as a firefighter from the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards.

State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician certificate.

Possession of a valid Florida Class “E” driver’s license.

Approved Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) certificate of completion (or must obtain within 3 months of being hired).

Valid American Heart Association Healthcare Provider card or equivalent BLS/CPR card from accredited institution.

PARAMEDIC SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must hold and maintain a valid Certificate of Compliance as a firefighter from the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards.

Must hold and maintain a Florida Certification as a paramedic and be authorized to function as a paramedic by the Fire Department Medical Director

Must hold and maintain an Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider card.

Must possess a valid Class D Florida driver’s license with the “E” endorsement.

Must be certified in CPR by the American Heart Association.

Must be able to provide Advanced Life Support without supervision (i.e. solo status).

Must pass oral and written protocol exam administered by the Medical Director
