UPDATE: Candidates will be eligible to sit for the exam if you have taken the State of Illinois Paramedics License or proof of enrollment in certifiedÂ Illinois Paramedics program and valid CPAT card and ladder climb at time of hire.Â Candidates will be eligible to apply and sign up for the exam until January 4, 2016 at 5:00 p.m., as long as written test booklets are available. Candidates will be responsible for picking up or requesting the study guide be mailed.
Written Examination Study Guideâ€¨Upon receipt of the application and fee the Human Resources Department will mail a Written Examination Study Guide. Those individuals applying after January 4, 2016 will have to pick up their own study guide or request to have it mailed. This guide is required for successful completion of the written examination. Applicants will be tested on information provided in the guide.

The Bloomington Fire Department is one of the oldest fire service organizations in the State of Illinois, dating back to June 19, 1868 when the first full-time firefighter was hired. The department is a career fire service organization comprised of over 100 career firefighters. The Bloomington Fire Department responds to over 10,000 calls for service per year.
Consisting of various divisions, the Bloomington Fire Department provides fire service and rescue, advanced life support emergency medical transport, aircraft firefighting and rescue, MABAS regional hazardous materials team and disaster planning to a population of more than 75,000 citizens. The City of Bloomington, one of the stateâ€™s fastest growing communities, is located in central Illinois approximately 130 miles southwest of Chicago.
The Bloomington Fire Department operates 4 fulltime ALS ambulances one EMS supervisor with a non-transport response vehicle, 2 rescue pumpers 2 engines, 2 Trucks and an Airport Crash vehicle out of 5 stations, on a 24/48 shift rotation. As a member of the State of Illinois MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System), Division 41, the department has participated in operations such as the Utica, IL tornado and Hurricane Katrina relief.
