The Grand Junction Fire Department is the largest career fire department between Denver and Salt Lake City. GJFD is a self-sufficient organization providing a variety of services. The department serves 649 square miles of Mesa County and is also the area’s ambulance provider.

Grand Junction is the gateway to the mountains and canyonlands of western Colorado and eastern Utah. Visitors and residents enjoy activities including whitewater rafting, golfing, skiing and snowboarding, fishing and exploring mountain bike and hiking trails. Grand Junction serves as a regional hub for retail, transportation, higher education and exceptional medical care.
Grand Junction Fire Department Firefighter/Paramedics work under the general supervision of a Fire Captain and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls. They work with their assigned station crew to provide basic and advanced life support care; perform all phases of fire suppression and fire prevention duties to protect life and property; provide emergency rescue including Hazardous Materials, Technical Rope, Swift Water, Confined Space, Trench, and Hazardous Device (bomb); operate, maintain, and inspect emergency response equipment and vehicles; and perform station maintenance.
1 Colorado Paramedic Certification OR National Registry Paramedic Certification – at time of hire
2 PALS certificate OR PEPP certificate – at time of hire
3 ACLS certificate – at time of hire
4 CPR certificate – at time of hire
5 Valid Colorado Driver License or ability to obtain
6 Must be able to distinguish red and green
7 Minimum vision 20/30
8 High school diploma or equivalent
9 Must be 18 years of age – at time of hire
Primary functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for performing heavy, moderate or light lifting; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling; walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; operating emergency medical equipment.
FLEXIBLE RECRUITMENT AND TESTING SCHEDULE
Pay starts at $18.61 hourly until graduated from the Fire Academy
and on Mesa County Protocols.
