Job Description:

Thank you for your interest in the Winnetka/Northbrook Fire Department Joint Application Process. Please be sure to carefully review all application instructions and testing information.

FIREFIGHTER INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Carefully review the minimum requirements for each department on the following page. All requirements must be met by the specified deadline date(s). Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements will not be allowed to continue on in the testing process.
  • Visit Recruitment.iosolutions.com to complete the online application for the position of Firefighter. THE DEADLINE FOR THE ONLINE APPLICATION IS MONDAY, JULY 11, 2016 AT 4:00 PM. When you have finished the application, you will receive a CONFIRMATION NUMBER. Save this number for your records.
  • Applicants may mail/ship or hand deliver release forms and required documents: **Applications via email will NOT be accepted

ORIENTATION AND TESTING INFORMATION:

Applicants who wish to take the written examination must attend the mandatory orientation. The orientation and written examination will be conducted on TUESDAY, AUGUST 2, 2016. Please arrive no later than 6:00 p.m. with a photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, military ID) to sign-in. Test will be held at:

Village of Winnetka Fire Department Minimum Qualifications:

      • US. citizen or meet the requirements of the Illinois Human Rights Act for citizenship status;
      • Must have passed 21st birthday and, except as otherwise provided by law, be under 35 years of age at date of filing application*;
      • Valid driver’s license;
      • High school diploma or equivalent;
      • Associate’s degree or at least 60 semester credit hours from an accredited college or university prior to offer of employment. Evidence of two (2) years of active naval or military service may be accepted in lieu of 60 college credits;
      • Valid CPAT and Ladder Climb card – considered valid ONLY if issued within six (6) months PRIOR to the written exam date (February 2, 2016 to August 2, 2016) from an approved testing agency.

      • Valid certification from the State of Illinois as an Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (IDPH EMT-P) by date of hire;
      • Vision correctable to 20/30, normal peripheral vision and able to distinguish colors;
      • Residency in Illinois at time of employment.

*The maximum age does not apply to anyone who has previously been employed as a firefighter or who has turned 35 while serving as a member of the Military with honorable service under age 40.

Village of Northbrook Fire Department Minimum Qualification:

      • U.S. citizen or meet the requirements of the Illinois Human Rights Act for citizenship status
      • Must have passed 21st birthday and, except as otherwise provided by law, be under 35 years of age at date of examination (August 2, 2016)
      • Valid driver’s license
      • High school diploma or equivalent AND one of the following:
        • Associate’s degree or at least 60 semester credit hours from an accredited college/university (copy of official certified transcripts due at application deadline);
        • OR State of Illinois licensed Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (IDPH EMT-P);
        • OR State of Illinois licensed Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (IDPH EMT-B) AND Illinois Officer of the State Fire Marshal Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter certification;
      • Valid CPAT and Ladder Climb card – considered valid ONLY if issued between January 1, 2016 and August 2, 2016 from an approved testing agency:

        • SUFD – Darien, IL – www.sufd.org or 630-910-2087
      • Vision correctable to 20/40, normal peripheral vision and able to distinguish colors.
