Salary: $91,428.00 – $111,144.00 Annually

Job Description:

The Manhattan Beach Fire Department’s responsibilities include fire suppression, emergency medical services, emergency preparedness, public education, fire inspections, plan checks, permits and code enforcement. The department consists of two fire stations, thirty career Firefighters and twenty-four volunteer personnel who are trained to provide the highest level of fire, medical and rescue assistance.

Examples Of Essential Duties:

The Firefighter/Paramedic protects life and property by performing firefighting, rescue, emergency medical aid, hazardous materials, disaster response, and other firefighting duties. Operates and maintains fire equipment, apparatus, and facilities. Participates in training and paramedic recertification activities. May perform other duties as required.

 Typical Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Completed Firefighter I training from a California State Fire Marshal accredited academy.

License & Certificates:

  • Current License as a Paramedic with the State of California at time of appointment.
  • Must obtain Los Angeles County Paramedic accreditation within three (3) months of hire date.
  • Must possess a current valid California Driver’s License and acceptable driving record at time of appointment.

The testing of Firefighter/Paramedic will include the following:

Written Examination:

Scheduled for Monday, June 13, 2016. This exam process will be weighted at 25%.

Agility Examination:

Scheduled for Sunday, June 26, 2016. This exam will be based on the validated time as set forth through the Rio Hondo Fire Academy website. Candidates must obtain a QUALIFYING score in order to continue to the Skills Assessment.

Firefighter/Paramedic Skills Assessment:

Scheduled for Monday, July 11, 2016 – Tuesday, July 12, 2016. This exam will be weighted at 25%. This exam will include two (2) exercises. Each exercise will be designed to reflect essential work functions of Firefighter/Paramedic.

FF/PM Skills Oral Interview & Oral Interview:

Scheduled for Wednesday, July 27, 2016 – Thursday, July 28, 2016. This exam process will be weighted at 50%.
