Job Description:

The Matteson Fire Department is currently hiring for Firefighter/Paramedic positions. This position requires the FireTEAM exam and the Candidate Physical Ability Test with ladder certification (CPAT with Ladder) dated within the last 12 months at the time of application.

Department Information: The Matteson Fire Department operates with a full-time staff of 33 sworn Firefighters/Paramedics (FF/PM), a Fire Chief and one full-time civilian employee, from two stations located at 3445 211th S, and 1015 Central Avenue. 24 hours on duty followed by 48 hours of duty.
A FF/PM performs duties in the areas of emergency medical, fire suppression, hazardous material, specialized technical rescue responses, fire prevention, and public education activities. These duties are above average in physical and mental difficulty. The FF/PM is expected to maintain themselves, and all equipment in an “at ready status” to respond. Responses will be at all hours of the day and night and in all type of weather. The FF/PM position involves considerable public contact, preparation of thorough and complete written reports, reading comprehension and public speaking.

Job Requirements

Age : 21 years of age and under 35 years of age unless otherwise exempted by Illinois statute. Proof of age will be required at time of application.
US Citizen : US citizen, legal resident or lawfully admitted for temporary residence and able to produce evidence of intention to become a US citizen. State of Illinois residency required after 24 months of employment.

High School Grad/GED : At time of hire
Valid ILLINOIS State Driver’s License : Possess a valid driver’s license from state of residency
Ability to Read/Speak English : Yes
Vision : physically and psychologically qualified to sustain the labors and exposures of a Firefighter/ParamedicCriminal Disqualifiers :
No felony convictions, good moral character
