Firefighter/Paramedic Deadline: No Deadline Given Salary: $55,130.56 Anually Job Description: The North Port Fire Rescue District is currently building an eligibility list for Firefighter/Paramedic positions.  This posting will remain open until filled. Applicants must achieve a passing score on the Fire Team and Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT). Candidates must complete the required City of North Port application at www.cityofnorthport.com (or through www.governmentjobs.com). Department Overview:   North Port Fire Rescue (NPFR) is an ISO 1 full service department with Fire Prevention, Suppression, ALS Emergency Services, Technical Rescue Response, and Automatic and Mutual Aid responses to surrounding areas/departments.  Our Mission is to “Provide Exceptional Public Safety Services in a Safe, Compassionate, and Professional Manner”.   North Port Fire Rescue (NPFR) provides full time fire and emergency medical services response and protection for the largest City in Sarasota County.  Currently there are 96  (including Battalion Chiefs, Lieutenants, Firefighter/Paramedics, Recruits, and Firefighter/EMT’s) and 14 administrative personnel, covering 104 square miles with a population just over 65,000, from 5 fire stations.  Our daily line staffing covers, 1 ALS Engine, Two BLS Engines, Two ALS Quints, One Tanker (Tender), Four ALS Rescues (Ambulances), and one Battalion Chief. Work schedule: Shift work, including evenings, weekends and holidays; rotating shifts.


Job Requirements

US Citizen: Yes High School Grad/GED: High School Diploma or GED Valid FLORIDA State Driver’s License: Possession of a valid driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license by date of hire. Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes Academy Certification: Valid Paramedic or EMT License issued by the State of Florida. Valid State of State of Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance/Minimum Standards. Other certifications as mandated by the City, Medical Director and/or State of Florida. Essential Job Functions: Performs skilled work in fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire prevention, inspection and training.This is a progressive apprenticeship position in accordance with the North Port Fire Rescue District Apprenticeship Fire Medic Program. Respond to public emergencies involving fire and/or other medical emergencies in the capacity of a Firefighter/Paramedic. Performs work in a safe and efficient manner compliant with City and District rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Promotes the well-being of himself/herself, the City and others through participation in external and internal District programs. Knowledgeable and responsible for the application and practical use of the rules, regulations, general orders, standard operating guidelines and general functions (Mission Statement) of the District. Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required. Progressive knowledge and application of firefighting and emergency medical skills. Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions promptly, effectively, and efficiently under varied and difficult conditions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working skills and knowledge. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry; ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, formulas, dosages, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be computer literate – must possess the skills necessary to use word processing type programs and basic computer operations.
