Eligibility Requirements:

  • $40.00 non-refundable application fee
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Current IL Department of Public Health (IDPH) EMT-P license.  EMT-P license must be obtained prior to the date of hire, but is not needed at time of application 
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Current physical ability test (CPAT) card or CPAT certificate and Ladder Climb from an authorized CPAT testing entity in effect for twelve months or less from April 12, 2018
  • No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude 
  • Must meet the requirements of an oral interview, background investigation, psychological examination and medical examination 
  • DD-214 (if applicable)
  • College transcripts/diploma (if applicable)

Required documentation due April 12, 2018 by 4:00 p.m. (not accepted via email or fax; documentation must be hand delivered or mailed):

  • Confirmed online application – available after purchase
  • Consent and Release Agreement (2 pages) – available after purchase
  • Copy of high school diploma or equivalent
  • Copy of valid driver’s license
  • Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship or legal authorization to work in U.S.: can include: county/state-issued birth certificate, U.S. passport, naturalization papers
  • Copy of valid CPAT and Ladder Climb Card(s) dated 4/12/17 – 4/12/18
  • If applicable, copy of Military DD-214
  • If applicable, copy of official college transcripts or college diploma 

Orientation and Testing Information :

Candidates must attend the mandatory orientation and written examination on SATURDAY, MAY 12, 2018. Please arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. with a photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, military ID) to sign-in. Testing will be in Oak Park, IL.  Exact testing location will be provided at a later time.

The initial testing process will consist of a traditional firefighter examination, which will assess job-related cognitive abilities, personality characteristics and behavioral traits. You do not need to have any fire service experience, training or knowledge to successfully complete these tests. An orientation will be provided immediately prior to the administration of the tests to provide further information regarding the testing process.
