FIRE PREVENTION INSPECTOR – FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Winnetka Fire Department has an opening for a part-time Fire Prevention Inspector to conduct inspections and
re-inspections for fire hazards and fire protection equipment of commercial, industrial, public, and institutional
buildings and multifamily residences for compliance with applicable fire codes, ordinances, and statutes.
The employee in this position will also investigate complaints; recognize and enforce corrections of violations;
prepare documentation, maintain comprehensive records; occasionally assist in reviewing construction and
remodeling plans; attend fire prevention meetings and training; communicate with fire department personnel; and
perform various other duties regarding fire and life safety issues in the Village. The Fire Prevention Inspector
reports to the Deputy Fire Chief and works with members of the Fire Department and Village Administration.
â€¢ A high school diploma or GED equivalent;
â€¢ Valid driverâ€™s license;
â€¢ State of Illinois Firefighter II (or Basic Firefighter) certification;
â€¢ State of Illinois Fire Inspector I certification;
â€¢ State of Illinois Fire Prevention Officer I and Plans Examiner I certification desirable.
â€¢ Experience as a Fire Inspector for a local government entity.
â€¢ Experience with Firehouse Software
â€¢ Knowledge of fire prevention codes, ordinances, statutes, regulations, systems, and equipment, building
construction, plans, specifications, methods, and materials; computer and office equipment skills;
â€¢ Ability to read and interpret construction plans and to recognize deviations from such plans.
â€¢ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with property owners, occupants,
contractors, and the public to achieve fire prevention goals.
