Job Description Details:
The Caldwell Fire Department is accepting application for three (3) lateral Firefighter/EMT openings and an eligibility list. Candidates are required to be certified by the State of Idaho as an EMT, or National Registry EMT-B (ability to obtain State of Idaho reciprocity) within thirty (30) days from date of hire. Candidates must possess an IFSAC / Pro Board Firefighter I Certification or equivalent at time of application. It is the responsibility of individuals seeking equivalency to provide all of the necessary documentation. The Caldwell Fire Chief shall have the final decision on equivalency.

Caldwell Firefighters are represented by Local 1821, and as such wages and benefits are negotiated. Currently, first year Firefighter/EMT’s are paid $15.88/hour, based on the contracted 2912 hour per year which equates to an estimated base wage of $46,243. Along with the yearly wages other benefits include: NWFF health insurance, longevity, 401k match, certification pay, and college education pay consideration.

Interested candidates shall submit a City of Caldwell application with proof of State of Idaho EMT, if applicable, and IFSAC Firefighter I / Pro Board, or equivalent documentation and the Lateral Questionnaire. Applications submitted without proof of EMT and IFSAC Firefighter I/Pro Board, or equivalent documentation, will not be considered. Applications and Lateral Questionnaires MUST BE RECEIVED by the City of Caldwell HR Department, 411 Blaine Street, Caldwell ID 83605; no later than 3:00pm MOUNTAIN TIME on October 25, 2019. Application received after this time by the HR Department will NOT be considered.

Minimum Required Experience:
The following firefighting experience/documentation must have been obtained within the last three (3) years in order to apply:
a. 1-year current experience as a full time professional firefighter/EMT
b. Three (3) years consecutive experience as a volunteer and/or Part time firefighter/EMT
c. Currently enrolled in a Firefighter I academy with an anticipated completion date on or before December 15
d. Equivalent experience may be submitted in lieu of the above requirements. Equivalency experience must have been obtained within the last three (3) years. Documentation for equivalent experience must be submitted for evaluation and approval by the fire chief.

Candidate(s) meeting the minimum requirements will complete the following before ranked:
– Physical Ability Test (pass/fail) no score
– Oral Interview(s)
– Job knowledge assessment

Candidate(s) being considered for hire will be given a conditional job offer, conditional on:
– Entry Level Physical
– Drug Test
– Background Check
