The Public Safety Officer II – 42 Hour responds to emergency calls for police, fire, and rescue. This position performs duties that deter crime through patrol, respond to citizen calls for police, respond to fire, responds to basic emergency medical calls, protect property, mediate and provide conflict resolution, and assist with fire prevention. Public Safety Officer II interacts with the public on a daily basis.Examples of Duties
Essential Qualifications
Must pass Public Safety Officer Written Exam, PSO Agility Test (police & firefighter fitness events), MCOLES entry tests (if not currently certified: physical fitness & reading/writing exams), drug screen, physical exam and psychological testing (including normal/corrected eye sight, no color blindness)
Must also pass interviews, application/background screenings and thorough background investigation (no felonies, including if expunged)
Must be at least 21 at time of appointment
Must live within 45 minutes response time (for civil, emergency or mandatory overtime call-in) after completion of probationary period.
Must be able to obtain and maintain:
– MCOLES certification (or attending & pass police academy)
– Valid State of Michigan driver’s license
Must be able to obtain and maintain:
– Medical First Responder certification (pass state exams)
– Fire Fighter I &Â II certifications (pass state exams)
Acceptable Training and Experience
Minimum of High School Diploma; Associate or higher preferred, or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the functions of the job
