Salary: Minimum: $38,636.00 Maximum: $58,864.00
This is work providing advanced emergency medical care to critically ill or injured patients prior to or while being transported in a life support vehicle. Duties include: responding to calls for emergency medical care; assessing patient vital signs; administering CPR, medications and intravenous lines; operating defibrillator machines and interpreting EKGs; documenting activities and completing trip sheets, and cleaning, restocking, and refueling the ambulance. The St. Louis Fire Department is a 24-hour per day, seven days a week service; therefore, work often involves shift, weekend, holiday and mandatory overtime assignments. Applicants must be able to work three 12-hour shifts on a weekly basis. A shift differential is paid for evening and night work.
LICENSES: Applicants must possess and maintain all of the following at the time of filing application and while employed by the City of St. Louis: â€¢ State of Missouri EMT-P License; â€¢ Missouri driverâ€™s license (note license number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application); â€¢ Current Certification in Advance Cardiac Life Support through the American Heart Association. COPIES OF ABOVE MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THE EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION OR AT THE TIME OF THE PERFORMANCE TEST.
CHARACTER INVESTIGATION: These positions require candidates to pass a “Character Investigation” prior to appointment. The Director of Personnel may reject the application, or refuse to test and/or eliminate an applicant from an examination as otherwise permitted by law.
MEDICAL: The pre-employment medical exam will include a drug/alcohol screen and subsequent random drug/alcohol tests without advance notice as a condition of employment.
DRIVING RECORD: At the time of the Performance Test, applicants without a Missouri driverâ€™s license will be required to present a â€œDriving Record Checkâ€ from their Stateâ€™s Department of Motor Vehicles.
