A teenage boy was killed and three other teens were wounded when a masked gunman went up to them in a McDonald’s parking lot in the Rogers Park neighborhood this afternoon and began shooting, authorities said.

The boy, 17, was dead on the scene, according to police News Affairs. A body covered by a white sheet remained in the parking lot of the restaurant at 6740 N. Clark Street more than a hour after the shooting, which occurred around 3:30 p.m.

Also shot were a 15-year-old girl shot multiple times and an 18-year-old man shot in the lower back, both of whom were taken to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in serious condition, and another 18-year-old man, shot in the arm, whose condition had stabilized at Weiss Memorial Hospital, said Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien.

The four were in the parking lot of the McDonald’s when they were approached by a masked man or boy who took out a gun and started shooting, O’Brien said. The gunman fled in an unknown direction. News Affairs did not have a detailed description of the shooter.

One person walked into Weiss Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm, saying he had been shot at the McDonald’s, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.

Two other people, a male and a female, were taken in serious-to-critical condition to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, he said.

Residents of the neighborhood said they heard about eight shots.

A woman who works nearby said she rushed to the driveway just south of the restaurant and saw a teenager on the ground, bleeding from the head and not breathing.
“The others had scattered already,” said the woman, who did not want to be identified out of fear for her safety.
