4 Escape Unhurt From Naperville House Fire
Naperville Sun Times – “Naperville Fire Department investigators are continuing to seek the cause of a blaze Tuesday night that did significant damage to a house on the city’s far south side.
No one was injured during the fire, which erupted about 8:42 p.m. in the two-story house on the 1700 block of Schey Court, in the Hawthorne Woods area near the Maplebrook neighborhood.
Fire Capt. Tom Oker said on the scene the blaze erupted in a second-floor bedroom. The two adults and two teenagers who live in the house had gotten outside safely by the time firefighters arrived, Oker said.
Twenty-four firefighters brought 10 vehicles and pieces of apparatus to battle the blaze, Oker said. The first engine company to arrive on the scene “stretched the (fire hose) line and got the fire knocked out†quickly, he said.
“The fire damage was contained to the bedroom, and at this point, there’s a considerable amount of smoke damage throughout the house,â€Â Oker said. Workers from Nicor Gas and the city of Naperville were on the scene, ensuring all of the home’s utilities had ben shut down, he said.
Oker added the house will not be habitable until repairs can be made. He could not immediately provide a financial damage estimate.
The precise source and cause of the fire remain under investigation.”
