Boat fire leads to rescues on Lake Michigan

“Chicago fire department and police marine units were able to rescue several people today after a boat caught fire out on Lake Michigan, officials said.

The fire was reported on a boat about one and a half miles out from Navy Pier at 4:50 p.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Bari Lemmon.

Marine units from both agencies managed to get out to the boat and rescued several people, Lemmon said. There were no reports of injuries.

Chicago Fire Department officials were extinguishing the fire. The cause of the blaze was not immediately available, Lemmon said.
