Firefighters went in the building only to be quickly surrounded by flames. A mayday call went out and the Chicago Fire Department’s Rapid Intervention Team responded to the distress signal and helped three firefighters out through a basement window. They were transported to Stroger Hospital for smoke inhalation. All are expected to recover.

A Rapid Intervention Team is called to every fire to assist if any firefighter is injured or trapped during the initial fire.
