Cats Die in Algonquin House Fire; Firefighter Injured

“Two cats died and a firefighter sustained a minor injury in a blaze in Algonquin early Sunday.

Firefighters responded to 1312 Merrill Ave. in Algonquin at 5:15 a.m. for a report of a fire on the first floor of the single-story home, according to a Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District press release.

The fire was brought under control within minutes. There were occupants inside the residence and they were all able to get out safely. Two cats died in the fire while other pets were able to escape the blaze, according to the news release.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury there is no further on information on his condition at this time.

The fire is still under investigation. No damage estimate is available.
