Chicago-area girl dies after plane crash that also killed her father

Chicago Tribune:

“Katherine Bronken, the 15-year-old girl from Round Lake who was injured in a plane crash that killed her father over the weekend, has died, officials said.

Katherine and a friend were passengers in a small plane piloted by her father, Jeffrey Bronken, when the plane crashed a few miles from St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport early Saturday. Jeffrey Bronken, 53, died in the crash.

Jeffrey Bronken was flying his daughter and friend Keyana Linbo to Florida for spring break.

An investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board said Jeffrey Bronken reported a fuel problem as he approached the airport. The Piper PA-28 crashed nose-first around 4:10 a.m. into a road in Pinellas County.

Katherine died this afternoon from injuries sustained during the crash, according to the Pinellas County sheriff’s office. Keyana, who remains hospitalized, is in stable condition, authorities said.

The Bronken family also lost daughter Christine to a snowmobiling accident in 2009.        Full Story continued….
