Father and Two Sons Die In Quincy Illinois House Fire

“Quincy Police report that three-year-old Lewis Bassett, Jr. died at 4:05 Sunday morning in St. Louis Children’s Hospital from injuries sustained in the fire that also killed his fater and brother on Saturday.

The investigation into the cause of the fire continues.

A father and son died following a Saturday evening fire on Quincy’s North side

A 43 year-old man and two boys, ages 1 and 3, were removed from the house as fire crews responded just after 5 p.m. Saturday.

The father Lewis Bassett,  and his son, Ladavion, age 1, died as a result of injuries sustained in the fire. Another son, Lewis, Jr., age 3,was airlifted to St. Louis.

Smoke was coming out of the house at 921 N. 11th when firefighters arrived. A second alarm was sounded. 

All three were then taken to Blessing by the Adams County Ambulance Service.

Assistant Fire Chief Rob Tipton said the victims were found in an addition on the home’s north side. Tipton said the fire was quickly under control. 

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined as an investigation is underway.
