“TheÂ Winnetka Fire DepartmentÂ was called to a house with smoke coming from the attic at 924 Pine Tree Court just after 9PM on Wednesday evening. Prior to the fire departmentâ€™s arrival, police units confirmed smoke from a house at the corrected address ofÂ 910 Pine Tree Court.Â The first engine turned down the street and was completely immersed in smoke with near zero visibility. They pulled past the house and the truck was able to back up to the driveway. Heavy smoke at the scene was the updated size up at a split level house that was being renovated. Companies attempted an interior attack as fire burned through the roof at the rear of the house. Northfield Truck 29 reported seeing heavy fire as they rounded the corner two blocks away.
“A home on the market for $800,000 was destroyed by fire in the northern Chicago suburb of Winnetka.
Numerous fire agencies responded to the 900 block of Pine Tree Lane at about 9 p.m. Wednesday, said Winnetka Fire Department Capt. Ryan Banks.
The home was fully engulfed, with flames and smoke tearing through the roof, when crews arrived. Freezing temperatures turned firefighters’ water into ice that coated nearby trees. A fire spokesperson said, however, that the water supply was fine and did not freeze.
Fire departments from neighboring Glencoe, Evanston, Skokie, Glenview, Morton Grove, Highwood and Wilmette responded.
It took about an hour to get the fire under control, Banks said. No injuries were reported.
The home was listed for sale by Winnetka-based realtor The Hudson Company for $800,000, according to its website.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known remained under investigation early Thursday.
