“Oak Brook’s search for a new fire chief is coming to an end.

Village President Gopal Lalmalani is scheduled to make an appointment of the village’s next fire chief at the April 8 Village Board meeting. The board will vote whether to approve the appointment.

Oak Brook received more than 60 applications for the fire chief’s job, said Trustee Mike Manzo, who headed a committee handling the search for a new chief.

“We narrowed it down to five people for Gopal to choose from,” Manzo said, adding two of the final five currently work for the Oak Brook Fire Department. “I was impressed with the pool of candidates we had. It was a very impressive group, and even chiefs from other departments had some very good things to say about Oak Brook”

The new chief will replace Tom McEllin, who retired Nov. 15, 2013. McEllin was hired in 1981 by the village as a firefighter-paramedic and became chief in 2009. Battalion Chief Gary Clark has been serving as acting chief since McEllin’s retirement.  Full story continued…
