 MyFoxChicago (FOX 32 News) –

“OAK LAWN, Ill- people were found dead after a house fire in Oak Lawn on Wednesday. Oak Lawn police report two bodies were found dead in the home and another in a car parked outside.

The fire began in a home in the 9800 block of 51st Avenue a few minutes after 5 a.m., according to Oak Lawn police Division Chief Michael Kaufmann. The fire was out as of 9 a.m., though firefighters were still cleaning up hot spots as of 10 a.m.

Kaufmann did not reveal the genders or ages of the deceased. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not confirm the fatalities.<

The roof and floor of the home collapsed during the blaze. Kaufman said firefighters are not sure if more people could be inside.

Police officers, evidence technicians and vehicles from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office were also on scene as of just before 10 a.m. FOX 32 News was told the Cook County Major Crimes Task Force was also called.

A vehicle with a tarp draped over it was taken away from the scene on a flatbed truck. But there was broken glass on the floorboards. This may be the car in which the third body was found.

A neighbor described the victims as a husband and wife who had lived in the residence for some 30 years.

“They were very, very nice people,” said the neighbor, Nancy Melvin, describing their deaths as “very tragic.”

Melvin said the husband was retired from AT&T, while the wife volunteered at St. Linus Catholic Church in Oak Lawn. The couple had two grown children and a grandson, Melvin said.

FOX 32 will update this story as details develop.
