Chicago Tribune Article:
“An early morning fire today caused an estimated $400,000 in damage to Grandma Sally’s restaurant in Naperville, but authorities say it does not appear suspicious.
An alarm went off in the building in the 400 block of East Ogden Avenue at about 2:15 a.m. and a fire engine was dispatched to investigate, according to Fire Marshal Scott Scheller.
Firefighters found fire and heavy black smoke coming from the back of the restaurant.
“They went (into) defensive mode initially to fight the fire and then were able to knock most of the fire down and then were able to enter to clean up some hot areas in there,†Scheller said.
Crews remained on scene throughout the morning to investigate, but Scheller said the fire does not appear suspicious.
Clean-up crews were also at the site boarding up the building, where the blaze tore a hole in the roof. Debris remained scattered behind the restaurant.
Nearby residents and longtime customers stopped by to see the damage and comfort the owners, who declined comment.
Rick Nuttall, who lives just blocks away, said he eats breakfast at the same table at Grandma Sally’s every Wednesday and said “all the people in there are like family.â€
“It’s a great family place to go to,†he said. “I hope they can get it rebuilt.† READ FULL ARTICLE HERE>>>>>
