“April 18, 2014 (LAKEWOOD, Ill.) (WLS) –Â A 15-year-old boy died after divers pulled him from a pond in northwest suburban Crystal Lake. He was in the water for more than 90 minutes before they were able to find him and get him out.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said the teen went to a party in the 6100 block of Haligus Road in Woodstock Thursday night. Witnesses told officers the boy took off some of his clothes and jumped into the pond from a pier behind the house.
The Crystal Lake Fire Department received a call when the teen failed to resurface. Emergency crews arrived at about 9:05 p.m. Thursday. McHenry County sheriff’s deputies closed Haligus to traffic for about three hours during the fire department’s rescue operation.
Divers located the boy submerged in about eight feet of water at 10:37 p.m. He was taken in critical condition to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock, the statement said. He was pronounced dead at 11:43 p.m. Thursday. Â Â Full story continued…
“Crews were called to the pond about 9 p.m. because the teen was missing and believed to be in the water, according to the earlier release. Firefighters searched the shallow areas until aid from surrounding towns arrived that allowed the responders to search deeper waters.
The pond is in the Crystal Lake Fire Protection District, which is covered by the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department, according to the release.
The name of the teen has not been released, officials said.
Departments from surrounding suburbs also responded.
