Two Dead After Mobile Home Fire

WSIL — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has released the names of two people killed in an early morning fire.

Fire crews were toned out just before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday to a mobile home at 13853 East Davis Road, south of Mt. Vernon.

Jefferson County Coroner Eddie Joe Marks says Gary Melton, 72, and his brother, Don Melton, 73, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Marks says foul play is not suspected. The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate.

MT. VERNON — The Illinois State Fire Marshal is looking into what caused a deadly house fire Tuesday. Fire crews were called to a mobile home on East Davis Road shortly before 1:30 a.m.

Jefferson County Coroner Eddie Joe Marks tells News 3 two people died in the fire.

Their names aren’t being released pending notification of family members.
