Woman dies in Saturday house fire in Moline

MOLINE QConline.com— A woman is dead after a Saturday morning house fire.

Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson said Julie Krebs, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene, adding that the preliminary cause of death is smoke inhalation.

Moline Fire Battalion Chief Kevin Irby said firefighters were dispatched to the single-story home at 2803 19th St. at 6:51 a.m. Saturday. As crews approached from the north, they “saw a large column of smoke, so they knew they had something.”

Police on scene advised that the house’s attached garaged was “fully involved” with fire at that time, Battalion Chief Irby said.

Fire crews entered the home and “came across a victim that had succumbed to the fire,” he said.

The fire was knocked down in just over 20 minutes, but a few crews and an ambulance remained at the light brown brick home at 9 a.m.

The garage was open and the overhang was charred, windows were broken out, the casements blackened. Charred debris was scattered in the yard, driveway and sidewalk Full Story Continued>>>>
