(WIVB) – “A fire at an Evans Bank in Depew caused about a half a million dollars worth of damage Sunday night.

No one was hurt in the blaze that happened around 6:00 p.m. at 4979 Transit Road.

The fire spread to the second floor of the building, but Chief Jim Koral from the Lancaster Twin District Fire Company said firefighters were able to get the flames under control in 15 minutes.

He told News 4 they were able to get many volunteer firefighters to the scene quickly. “Because it’s a holiday week, we had a lot of manpower and the fire fighting went well, no one was injured,”  he explained.

Investigators are looking into whether the fire was intentionally set.  They have deemed it suspicious.

The money kept inside the bank was not burned.  Chief Koral said that the bank’s safe is designed to withstand a fire for up to 5 hours at a very high temperature.”…Continue Reading Here
