“VAN NUYS – A large force of firefighters today put out a fire thatÂ heavily damaged a commercial building and attached warehouse in Van Nuys.
Â Â The blaze inside the building at 14937 Calvert St., near theÂ intersection with Kester Avenue was reported about 12:10 a.m. and knocked downÂ at 2:15a.m., said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
Â Â As flames spread through the location, the blaze was designated aÂ “major emergency structure fire,” Humphrey said, adding the designationÂ occurs when more than 16 fire companies are dispatched to the scene of a fire.Â The department eventually sent 161 firefighters to the site, he said.
Â Â One firefighter was treated for exertion and then returned to theÂ firefight, Humphrey said. No other injuries were reported.
Â Â The building houses a number of construction-related companies,Â including All Right Electric Inc., Rethink Environmental, Castle Flooring andÂ National Hardwood Flooring, according to Internet records.
Â Â The cause of the fire remained under investigation. A damage estimateÂ was not immediately available.”
