Line of Duty Death: 19 Year Old Firefighter Jack Rose, Mt. Marion Fire Department (Ulster County) New York

It is with heavy hearts that we bring you notification of another LODD so close to the holidays.  This time the 19 Year old firefighter from Mt. Marion Fire Department in New York lost his life while battling what was initially reported as a chimney fire.  It sounds as if fire was located in the basement of the residence and at some point there was a mayday call.  Firefighter Rose was rescued by his fellow firefighters and later pronounced dead.  To the members of the Mt. Marion Fire Department, friends, and family of Jack Rose we offer our deepest condolences.

MOUNT MARION, N.Y. (NEWS10) — “A Mount Marion fire department firefighter killed in the line of duty.

The Centerville fire department flag is at half- staff this morning.

Saugerties police tell us he died at the scene of a chimney fire in Centerville Saturday.

Firefighters responded to the call just before seven Saturday evening with multiple departments arriving on the scene.

While crews were taking down those flames, officials say one fireman went into distress and was rescued from inside the home.

He was transported to Health Alliance hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The identity of the fireman is being withheld until family members have been notified.

The incident currently remains under investigation.”

  2. I served in MMFD when I was young. My Dad was a founding member and the 1st LODD that MMFD and all of Ulster county ever had. To get the news last night was just devastating. This is a tiny rural town that has suffered more than its share of heartaches. My thoughts and prayers are with Jacks family and my brothers back in NY

    We are heartbroken, and will always remember Jack as a sweet, sweet boy. He was our cousin, a son, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, a grandson, a cousin, a friend and much much more. Jesus has him from here….
