Two fire fighters killed in Kansas City apartment fire

As reported from –KCTV5 news Kansas City.

Two firefighters have died from injuries suffered while battling an apartment fire in Kansas City.

 The two were caught in the building as a portion of it collapsed. In all, four Kansas City firefighters were injured. Two others are in the hospital Monday night. The extent of their injuries is unknown.



Two residents of the building were rescued earlier and were unharmed.

The building, located near the intersection of Independence Avenue and Prospect Avenue  began to collapse at 8:07 p.m., some 35 minutes after firefighters rescued two people from an upper level of the building with a ladder.


At that point, the department had already pulled the firefighters out of the building due to the conditions and they were fighting it from outside.

Of the two other firefighters hurt, we’re told one is being released, the other is staying overnight for observation.

The two others were pronounced dead around 9:30 p.m..

Firefighters are gathering at the hospital to give support to each other and the families of those firefighters.

No names, genders or ranks have been released.
