Two firefighters have died from injuries suffered while battling an apartment fire in Kansas City.
Two residents of the building were rescued earlier and were unharmed.
The building, located near the intersection of Independence Avenue and Prospect AvenueÂ began to collapse at 8:07 p.m., some 35 minutes after firefighters rescuedÂ two people from an upper level of the building with a ladder.
At that point, theÂ department had already pulled the firefighters out of the building due to the conditions and they were fighting it from outside.
Of the two other firefighters hurt, we’re told one is being released, the other is staying overnight for observation.
The two others were pronounced dead around 9:30 p.m..
Firefighters are gathering at the hospital to give support to each other and the families of those firefighters.
