Line of Duty Death: Two Firefighters Shot in Long Beach, California One Firefighter (Fatality)

Two Firefighters were shot at a senior living home in Long Beach, California as they pulled up to a home explosion.  Reports now indicate one Captain was killed in the Line of Duty after being shot. More on the story in the interview above and below.

NBC Los Angeles – “One of two firefighters hospitalized after they were struck by gunfire as they responded to a fire and explosion early Monday inside a residence at a Long Beach senior home has died.

A second firefighter remained hospitalized, fire officials said. A resident struck by gunfire also was hospitalized, but details regarding that individual’s condition were not immediately available.

Police said the suspected shooter is in custody.

“It hits home. We just show up to do our job,” said Long Beach Police Sgt. Brad Johnson. “Firefighters, they deal with fire. They don’t deal with bullets. It’s a sad day in Long Beach’s history.”

“The shooting was reported at a high-rise building in the 600 block of East 4th Street after authorities responded to reports of an explosion and fire. The Covenant House, which is in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Fourth Street, was surrounded by police and fire department vehicles early Monday as evacuated residents waited outside.”…Continue Reading Here
