Video of a 4 Alarm Apartment Fire in Downtown Vancouver. The video was posted by Hall 7 Emergency Photography and description is below.
“On Thursday October 4th 2018, Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services (VFRS) were called for a structure fire at the Washington Court Apartments on Thurlow St shortly after 9:30am. When crews arrived they had heavy smoke coming from the back of the building. The fire was immediately upgraded to a 2nd alarm to bring in extra firefighters & apparatus to the scene. Crews extinguished the main body of the fire which was contained to one unit, and after checking for further extension they found the fire had extended into the walls and up into the ceiling voids of the building which made the fire stubborn to fight. The fire was shortly upgraded to a 3rd alarm then later a 4th alarm to bring in additional firefighters & apparatus to the scene. Ladders were set up on the right side of the building for roof access that way crews can ventilate the building to help contain the fire. One firefighter was injured at the scene, and was treated by BCEHS with minor non-life threatening injuries. They are no other injuries or fatalities at the scene of the fire. ESS were deployed to the scene to help residents who’s suites that were effected by the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown to me but there was workers in the building at the time. Great work well done by Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services as well as all emergency services (BCAS & VPD), Utility Services (BC Hydro & Fortis Gas), & Emergency Social Services for all their hard work, bravery, & dedication at the scene. God Bless :).
