    Job Description


    Under general supervision of a higher classification and accountable to obtain the necessary skills and knowledge required to become a Fire Fighter.

    Essential Functions:

    1. Attends the Fire Academy to learn the rules and regulations of the Fire Department and skills of fire fighting.
    2. Participates in exercises designed to develop fire fighting skills.
    3. Attends classes.
    4. Participates in physical skilled exercises.

    Other Job Functions:

    1. May be required to operate motor vehicle.
    2. Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    No special knowledge or skill required. Ability to understand and follow instructions; understand meanings of words; perform arithmetic operations; comprehend forms in space; perceive pertinent details in verbal or tabular form; coordinate eyes and hands or fingers; move easily; move hands and feet in coordination with visual stimuli; establish and maintain an effective working/living relationship with other employees and the general public. Must be able to read and write the English language


    Inside/outside working conditions, exposed to all extremes of the environment; exposed to toxic and non-toxic odors, fumes, dusts, mists, gases, extreme heat; extreme heights; small enclosed places; noise; mechanical and electrical hazards; explosives; radiation; and chemicals. Working conditions also involve lifting up to 100 lbs. sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching/stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, pushing, reaching, pulling and twisting.

  • SPECIAL NOTE:       Applicants must successfully pass a written test, an aerobic capacity run, a physical assessment test,  a background check, a polygraph examination, an interview board and a medical / physical examination.

    EDUCATION:            High school diploma (or) GED Certificate (or) 12 semester hours from an accredited college or university.

    RESIDENCY:            Must live within thirty (30) minutes of a designated report-in station; must be accomplished within six (6) months of employment.

    AGE:                          18 – 35 years of age (cannot have reached 36th birthday by date of entry level test), Monday,  April 4, 2016.

    LICENSE:                    Valid and current drivers’ license.  (Will be required to obtain Class “B” while in training).

    VETERAN:                   In order to receive 5 points added to passing exam score, military veterans must email their DD214s (Member 4) showing an honorable discharge by 6:30 p.m. on April 3, 2016  DD214s will not be accepted at the written examination.

    RESIDENCY:                            In order to receive 2 points added to passing exam score for residency, applicants must submit two (2) different proofs of residency at the written examination.
